Microsoft has created a new technology through their Garage Incubator Program that is called Hearing AI . This program is a smart phone app that is used to help increase communication for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. This app will use artificial intelligence to interpret many different sounds, and will send a vibration tone if a smoke detector or carbon monoxide detector were to go off. This is just one of the many features this app offers. This app will also what Microsoft calls ‘deep learning.’ This feature will be used to convert text to speech, as well as speech to text. This feature will make it much easier for the user to have the ability to communicate with the hearing world. Another very cool feature of this app is the way it ‘learns’ on its own. The more the app is used to convert text to sound, and vise-versa, the program will make the text appear larger or smaller based on the volume of the user’s voice.
